About Us
We are members of the Episcopal Church in the Episcopal Diocese of California and part of the Anglican Communion, a body of churches around the world who trace their ancestry through the Church of England. Anglican simply means "of England."
Our theology is progressive. We are followers of Jesus Christ and strive to apply His teachings to our lives with humility, curiosity and wonder. |
What to expect on Sunday morning
As members of the Episcopal Church, our liturgy is based upon the Book of Common Prayer. The Holy Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is at the heart of our worship, and is ordinarily celebrated every Sunday morning. Each Sunday we listen to readings from the Bible, hear a sermon proclaimed, and share the bread and wine. Our 10 am service includes hymns sung by all. Both Sunday services are informal: come as you are. All who walk through the doors are guests of God. It doesn't matter how old you are, what you wear, where you are from, your gender or relationship status, if you have never been to church, or have not missed a Sunday service in over 80 years, you have a place here.
Our Story
Our particular congregation is a relatively new one which was formed from two with long histories in this area. The building we call our ‘south campus’ was first associated with The Episcopal Church of St. Andrew. St. Andrew’s began in 1907 in a small building at the corner of El Camino and Santa Inez in San Bruno. They moved to Santa Lucia Ave. in 1957. The ‘north campus’ was home to St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, formed in 1952 in South San Francisco. They first worshiped in a building on the corner of El Camino and W. Orange Ave. before moving to Country Club Dr., also in 1957.
The two congregations began sharing a single vicar in Oct. of 2011. On Dec. 20, 2015 our two Bishop’s Committees decided we should consider ourselves a single congregation. With the Bishop’s blessing, we are deep in the midst of living out what it means to be ‘one’. And in February of 2020, Bishop Marc gave us the news that we are officially 'one congregation in two locations' with the new name of SEA Episcopal Church.
Sundays find us in both buildings: at 8am in South San Francisco (North SEA) and 10:15am in San Bruno (South SEA). We remain a people dedicated to sharing the love of God through Christ.
